Commander Ralphs's Pyramid Mysteries |
I'm stuck in a pyramid time warp! |
I seem to be back in Aztec,, Egyptian, Mayan and Atlantean times all at once! |
Come on, time travellers, let's explore the mysteries of the pyramids and much...much...more! |
What has Atlantis got to do with pyramids? Well, some commentators feel that the idea of pyramids originated on the island of Atlantis. Are they right? Who can say? Some explanations offered are that due to the fact that the pyramids can be found on both sides of the Atlantic is important. Also, that the pyramids became a very special mystic focal point for most of the important civilisations. Egyptians, Aztecs, Mayans. From the desert to the densest jungles, pyramids can be found. |
The question is, why? There are a lot of theories, but to date no one knows the answer. |
Many experts on the Atlantis story believe the culture of ancient Egypt was inspired by the Atlantean experience. Plato, the Greek philosopher, believed that the fact we have any knowledge at all of their story is largely due to excellent records kept by Egyptian priests. Egypt was believed to be the storehouse of the lost wisdom and knowledge from this incredible Atlantic Island - knowledge which theorists attribute to the awesome rise of Egyptian civilisation. |
The link between the Mexican pyramid constructed from masonry and the simple earthen hill is provided by the eastern mound sacred to the goddess Coatlicue close to the Teocalli or pyramid of her son Uitzilopochtli in Mexico. People of importance were buried in these American pyramids just as they were in those of Egypt, which were also obviously developed from the idea of the sacred mountain. Indeed, several of the Egyptian pyramids were called by such names as the “Mountain of Ra”. |
Egyptian and American pyramids have thus a common evolutionary history. The idea must have sprung from a common centre. Both would appear to trace their descent from the sacred hills of Atlantis. Moreover, pyramids were to be found in the Canaries and the Antilles, the insular links in the chain between Europe and America, of which Atlantis is said to be the missing link. |
Mesoamerican pyramids, pyramid-shaped structures, are an important part of Ancient Mesoamerican architecture. These structures were usually step pyramids with temples on top – more akin to the ziggurats of Mesopotamia than to the pyramids of Ancient Egypt. The Mesoamerican region's largest pyramid by volume – indeed, the largest in the world by volume – is the Great Pyramid of Cholula, in the Mexican state of Puebla. |
The remaining question is this.......was it just coincidence or is there really a link between all these great civilisations? |
We'll leave that for another time......I guess I'll just have to convince the crew to take a little trip back to Atlantis! |
Now comes the fun part...... How would you like to construct your very own Aztec Step Pyramid? |

Where am I? |
In early Egypt, Mexico and Peru, certain hills were regarded as especially sacred., as the homes of powerful supernatural beings. |
The construction of step pyramids has been an ancient part of several cultures throughout history. These pyramids typically are large and made of several layers, or steps, of stone. The term refers to pyramids of similar design that emerged separately from one another, as there was no connection between the different civilizations that built them. |
The earliest Egyptian pyramids were also step pyramids. During the Third Dynasty of Ancient Egypt (27th century BC), the architect Imhotep built Egypt's first step pyramid, the Pyramid of Djoser, by building a series of six successively smaller mastabas (an earlier form of tomb structure), one atop of another. Later pharaohs, including Sekhemkhet and Khaba, built similar structures. The first step pyramid was built for Zoser(or Djoser). |
The most prolific builders of step pyramids were the Pre-Columbian civilizations. The remains of step pyramids can be found throughout the Mayan cities of the Yucatán, as well as in Aztec, Toltec, and Inca architecture. In many of these cases, successive layers of pyramids were built on top of the pre-existing structures, with which the pyramids expanded in size on a cyclical basis. This is true of the sunny elysha garza of the Great Pyramid of Cholula and of the Great Pyramid of Tenochtitlan. |
A mystery within a mystery.....so much to explore, right? |
Now what are the rest of crew up to? Mmmmmm.....I wonder..... Guess we'll have to find out together! Their time portals are awaiting you ! |
